How To Connect A Domain

The purpose of this article is to help you understand how to connect to your domain from your name registrar (where you bought your domain)

Updated over 2 months ago

Step 1:

Make sure you’re a premium user — only paying customers can connect their domain.

Step 2:

Purchase your domain. Use any domain registrar you prefer, just make sure to remember your username and password. In the past, our customers have used namecheap (https://www.namecheap.com/) and GoDaddy (https://www.godaddy.com/).

Note: it doesn’t matter which one you use.

Step 3:

Navigate to where you will be modifying your domain records.

NameCheap (once you are logged in and have purchased your domain):

  1. Hover over account (top right corner)

  2. Press “Dashboard”

  3. Click “Domain List”

  4. Press “Manage” on the domain you want to use for your website

  5. Click “Advanced DNS”

GoDaddy (once you are logged in and have purchased your domain):

  1. Click your name (top right corner)

  2. Press “My Products”

  3. Click “Manage” on the domain you want to use for your website

  4. Press “DNS” (middle of screen)

If you used another name registrar, you generally want to configure the records of your domain. Some buttons to look out for if you’re using another name registrar are typically: “modify DNS records,” “add a new record,” “connect records.”

Step 4:

Connect your new CNAME Record

  1. In your name registrar, add an (or modify an existing) CNAME Record

  2. Ensure the “Host” (or “Name”) is set to “www”

  3. Enter the following value:

    cname.vercel-dns.com

  4. If possible, leave “TTL” as Automatic, or change to 3600 seconds if required

Note: you can delete all other unnecessary CNAME records

Step 5:

Connect your new A Record

  1. In your name registrar, add an (or modify an existing) A Record

  2. Ensure the “Host” (or “Name”) is set to “@”

  3. Enter the following value:

    76.76.21.21

  4. If possible, leave “TTL” as Automatic, or change to 3600 seconds if required

Note: you can delete all other unnecessary A records

Step 6:

Delete all other unnecessary records. The only records you will need are the two records on your Site Settings dashboard.

Step 7:

Navigate back to your BuiltRight Site Settings Dashboard and enter your domain.

Please note that due to propagation, getting your website live can sometimes take up to 72 hours.

Congratulations! Your website is now connected to your domain!
